John M.McLean, Senior Minister, came to Unity of Bellevue in March 2006 after serving as Associate Minister, First Church Unity, Nashville.
He began his spiritual journey at the Los Angeles Church of Religious Science where he was a licensed practitioner and a board member. He came to Unity when he moved to New York City and experienced the late Eric Butterworth at the Unity Center for Practical Christianity.
Rev. McLean has spent all of his prior work-life involved in the creative arts in one form or another. Immediately after graduation from college, he worked at the National Endowment for the Arts, Washington, DC. After moving to southern California, he eventually worked in the television industry as a staff producer on a prime-time television series and later as a network, prime-time programming executive. Just prior to entering Unity School, he also worked in the arts at the local level when he was involved in all areas of community outreach and programming for a large museum and performing arts center in rural Wisconsin.
He has a B.A. in Art History from George Washington University, Washington, DC and an MA in Creation Spirituality from Naropa University/University of Creation Spirituality, Oakland, California. He was ordained in June 2003 after completing the Ministerial Education Program at Unity School, Unity Village, Missouri.
MY OBJECTIVE
My purpose is to advance and practice an understating of Truth so that all who “seek, shall find” a better experience of life.
My vision for ministry is to participate in and lead in a community of Truth-centered people following Unity traditions and principles. I see my chief work as a teacher of Principle, joyfully celebrating the Divine as the human experience and as a provider of a place for the language of the soul to be expressed. The language of my own soul expresses as excellence in presentation, connections between New Thought precepts and the Perennial Philosophy, and an exuberant sense of the possible.
MY CORE VALUES INCLUDE THE BELIEFS THAT…
…a church exists as an on-going gift of a congregation for the people of their city, so that those who choose, may experience the fullness of life through community, worship, education, and celebration of the arts…
…our practice is to affirm the values of love, healing, prosperity, community, spiritual growth, and to support the realization of individual potential through the study and use of Truth. As we strive to close the gap between what we know and how we live in the world, we seek to express…
Compassion as Inclusivity
Prosperity as the Fullness of Life
Joy as Creativity,
Advocacy for the Wellness of
Soul,Soil & Society
